'The Flying Scotsman', probably the world's best known train, celebrates it's centenary today (Monday) and here is the train as it passes Holloway Station (closed in 1915) between King's Cross and Finsbury Park. It is being drawn by a Great Northern Railway Stirling 8-footer No.53 (built in 1875)

The QE2 passing the QM2 at Southampton. The end of an era in cruising was being marked today in a ceremony involving the QE2 and Cunard's new superliner the 150, 000-tonne Queen Mary 2 (QM2). At the ceremony, attended by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, Cunard's flagship status was being passed from the 35-year-old QE2 to the 540 million QM2 which was officially named by the Queen in January this year
