Landmarks - Windmill - Bourn, Cambridgeshire
Probably the oldest surviving windmill in England is this wooden postmill at Bourn, Cambridgeshire. It is known to have been in existence in 1636, and is scheduled by the Ministry of Works as an 'ancient monument' for preservation. It is very small, like the mills depicted in mediaeval illuminated manuscripts, and has the traditional straight sided roof.
