Portrait of Sir Winston Churchill: 1963

JANUARY 24TH : On this day in 1965 former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill died at the age of 90. A LIBRARY PICTURE OF SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL. * Sir Winston Churchill is the nation s favourite choice to appear on the back of a 100 note if one is introduced, a new survey claimed. With 37% of the vote, Churchill was the clear victor across all age groups, social classes and regions in the survey of 2, 000 adults in England and Wales. The Alliance and Leicester poll comes as the BBC prepares to announce the winner of its Great Britons vote, where the wartime leader is in third place.
