Bespectacled JOHN LENNON of The Beatles with JONATHAN HAGUE, 21-year-old artist from Llandudno, seen against a picture of The Beatles, the work of Jonathan, at an exhibition of his work which opened at London's Royal Institute Galleries to-day (Monday). The Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney sponsored the exhibition because Jonathan (Jon) was their friend. He attended the same Liverpool College of Art as John Lennon for three years. His paintings are large, colourful, basically figurative and highly original.

An expert hand with the wine as three of the recipients of awards from the Royal Television Society celebrate in London. They are actor Gordon Jackson (l), who won the Performance Award for his work in ITV's "Upstairs Downstairs", ex-chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority, Lord Aylestone, who receives the society's Gold Medal for outstanding contributions to television, and Diana Edwards-Jones, programme director for independent Television News, who is given the award for outstanding creative achievement behind the camera in recognition of her sustained work in the 1974 election presentation.

Musical actress Stephanie Lawrence. 04/11/00: The West End and Broadway star was found dead at her home, her husband confirmed. * The 50-year-old musical star, who took leading roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber's shows, Cats, Evita and Starlight Express, was pronounced dead at her south west London home. 14/11/2000 Friends and family of West End star Stephanie Lawrence were saying their farewells to the actress at her funeral. The 50-year-old musical favourite, known for her appearances in the Andrew Lloyd Webber hits Evita, Cats and Starlight Express, died from alcoholic liver disease just over a week ago.
