02/10/1869 - On this Day in History - One of the great spiritual leaders in World History, Mohandas K Gandhi, known as the Mahatma, was born in Pornader Province, India. MAHATMA GANDHI 1930: Gandhi greets supporters shortly before his arrest in Bombay for causing civil disturbances. Gandhi (1869-1948) played a major part in the struggle for Home Rule for India and was frequently imprisoned for acts of Civil Disobedience against the Raj.
