MISS WORLD 1961: The winner of 1961 Miss World contest, Miss United Kingdom, Rosemarie Frankland from Lancaster, after her crowning in London. Rosemarie received 2, 500, a trophy, the offer of a screen test and a 15 day holiday in Paris. *17/12/2000 Britain's first Miss World was found dead at her home in the US. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Coroners' Department said Frankland, was found dead at her home in the exclusive Marina Del Rey area on December 8. The 57-year-old former beauty queen was found by police lying on her bed with a phial of prescription drugs in her hand, The Mail on Sunday reported.
