Great British Adventurers - Lawrence of Arabia - 1927
Aircraftsman Thomas Edward Shaw on his motorcycle; a Brough Superior SS100. Shaw was better known as Lt Col T.E. Lawrence or 'Lawrence of Arabia - A major factor in the Desert War in WWI, an adviser to Prince Faisal during the Versailles Peace Conference, a renowned author and an archaeolgist. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1935.
Leisure and Tourism - Caravan Holiday
Harry and Frances Gilbert with their nine year old son Kristy having a picnic on the side of the road. The Gilbert family, from West Twyford, have been compelled to spend the last five days of their holiday in their parked caravan. They were due to spend their break away in Bournemouth but the clutch on their car, right, burned out on the Kingston by-pass.
Tram Car - Chessington Zoo
The very last tramcar to the 'Elephant and Castle' and its Comet propelled. London discarded its trams a couple of months ago and this vehicle (the last to actually run in the capital) was brought by an association of tramcar lovers and donated to Chessington Zoo where there is a museum of transport. Comet the zoo's elephant was on hand to haul the tram to its final destination.
