Film - 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' - Dick Van Dyke

According to its inventor Rowland Emmet, a celebrated creator of improbable machinery, it's "A Gentleman's Aid to Aerial Exploration Mk.1". The bird man wearing the contraption is Caractacus Pott - recognisable as American actor Dick Van Dyke. From a hill overlooking the village of Turville, Buckinghamshire, he has been trying to compete with the birds for scenes in Albert R. Broccoli's musical fantasy "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", now in production at Pinewood Studios. Alas, Caractacus - a kooky inventor in the film - produced sparks, smoke and little else, except a scorch mark left on the seat of his flying apparel by one of the booster rockets. He made a spectacular nose dive, but never lifted off the launching ramp.

Film - 'Mods and Rockers' Ballet - Twickenham Film Studios

Real life Mods and Rockers clash in a make-believe punch-up at Twickenham Film Studios. The boys and girls, from Club 59, Hackney, London, were staging the battle before the film cameras. They are appearing with the Western Theatre Ballet in the film version of the company's ballet 'Mods and Rockers', story of a Mod girl who falls for a Rocker boy. Sylvia Wellman and Simon Mottram dance their original rolls. The colour film, which is being produced and directed by Kenneth Hume, will also include 'Non Stop', another popular ballet of the Western Theatre Ballet.
