06/02/1952: Died on this day, King George VI KING GEORGE VI: A portrait of King George VI in RAF uniform. King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1936-1952) and the last Emperor of India (1936-1947), he succeeded to the throne after the abdication of his elder brother, King Edward VIII. He died from lung cancer. Picture shows George VI inspecting RAF personnel involved in the Berlin Airlift in the quadrangle of Buckingham Palace, London.

The Duke of Edinburgh, attending the Royal Film Performance in London, shakes hands with Swedish actress Britt Eklund. Miss Eklund married British actor Peter Sellers in England last week. The Royal Fim Performance of the new Doris Day and James Garner film 'Move Over, Darling' was held at the Odeon Theatre, Leicester Square, and was in aid of the Cinematograph Trade Benevolent Fund. Also in this picture are (left to right) Jack Hawkins, Margaret Rutherford, Stanley Baker and Honor Blackman.
