Queen Elizabeth - Standards and Guidon ceremony

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in her role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Household Cavalry, and the Duke of Edinburgh, arrive at the Presentation of Standards and Guidon ceremony in London's Horseguards Parade. * In a ceremony which occurs just once every 10 years, the Queen was being escorted, in a horse-drawn carriage, from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards in Central London by cavalrymen of the Life Guards, where the old Standards and Guidon - banners - were being paraded for the last time. The new Colours and Guidon were then being brought on to the parade ground and, following consecration by the clergy, were being paraded before the Queen.

Royalty - Princess Elizabeth - Mersham-le-Hatch, Ashford, Kent

Interested spectators in deck chairs at the village cricket ground of Mersham-le-Hatch, near Ashford, Kent, are Princess Elizabeth (left) and Lady Brabourne. They are watching their husbands play for the Mersham team in a match against the neighbouring village of Aldington. The Duke of Edinburgh had a short innings - he was out leg before wicket off the first ball he received, but when bowling himself he took two wickets. Lord Brabourne was Mersham's wicket-keeper. The Princess and the Duke are spending the week-end as guests of Lord and Lady Brabourns at Mersham.
