Celtic hit back with an equaliser
Hughes (on the ground, stripes) scores for Celtic in the 47th minute of the European Cup semi-final (second leg) against Leeds United at Hampden Park. The goal - an equaliser which restored Celtic's aggregate lead - came when, from a short corner on the right, Auld crossed low and Hughes, diving low, beat Leeds goalkeeper Sprake with a glancing header.

Stanley Matthews Footballer of the Year 1963
48 year old Stanley Matthews, the Stoke City and former England player who has been voted the Footballer of the Year for the second time by the Football Writers' Association, holds the trophy - a silver sugar bowl decorated with the Stoke City colours - after receiving it at the Hotel Russell, London. Matthews was the first player to be honoured when the Association started the award in 1948. This season he has helped Stoke to win the Division 2 Championship and promotion to Division 1. He was a professional with the club when they last won the title 30 years ago.

Another Trebilcock Goal
Once again Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Ron Springett is beaten, to give Everton their second goal in the FA Cup final at Wembley. Again a shot from the Cornishman, the Everton "hero" who came into the team place of Pickering. He scored two goals. Temple scored a third. Thus Everton won 3-2.
