Harry and Frances Gilbert with their nine year old son Kristy having a picnic on the side of the road. The Gilbert family, from West Twyford, have been compelled to spend the last five days of their holiday in their parked caravan. They were due to spend their break away in Bournemouth but the clutch on their car, right, burned out on the Kingston by-pass.

Rolls-Royce was celebrating its centenary today at the very spot where the company was founded. On May 4, 1904, Charles Rolls met Henry Royce at the Midland Hotel in Manchester and the two men then formed the world-famous company.
