Liverpool lunar eclipse

A total eclipsed red moon seen adjacent to a Liver Bird atop the Liver Buildings in Liverpool. The total eclipse of the moon was expected to be one of the most colourful and dramatic in recent years but cloud threatens to spoil the heavenly show for many. * The latest weather reports indicated that people in Northern Ireland, western Scotland and Cumbria should have the best viewing conditions with hardly a cloud in the sky, but people in the south west and along the south coast, from Kent to Cornwall, are unlikely to see much at all due to heavy cloud.

ECLIPSE Gateshead/Angel

A Halo surrounds the Angel of the North near Gateshead during the eclipse as watchers on the ground enjoyed a spectacular experience as the partial eclipse took form. *14/10/03: The company which built the statue was put into administration threatening scores of job losses. Administrators called in by Hartlepool Fabrication said 38 redundancies would be made immediately, but there were hopes of finding a new buyer to save the remaining 55 jobs. Derek Simpson, general secretary of Amicus, said the statue, sited off the A1 near Gateshead, would now become a monument to the "wilful destruction" of British manufacturing.

And a third would even consider moving the capital out of London to help reduce its overdominance and to relieve congestion in Britain's largest city, according to a poll for the political monthly Prospect magazine. In a YouGov poll of 2, 037 people from all parts of Great Britain, 76% either agreed strongly (34%) or tended to agree (42%) that London was too dominant.
