Transport - Heritage Railway - Bluebell Line's First Run - Sheffield Park, Sussex

Preparing the old locomotive Bluebell at Sheffield Park, Sussex, for reopening of the Bluebell Line. Paul Willis, 18, is on the loco and hands part of the funnel to Harold May, general manager of the new Bluebell Line. Also pictured is Albert Mills, permanent way inspector. The Bluebell Line, so called because it runs through 4-and-half-miles of the prettiest Sussex countryside, was closed by British Railways as uneconomic, but has been put back into working order by a group of enthusiasts. It will operate at weekends and in the summer. The locomotive Bluebell was formerly with the South Coast and Chatham Railway.

Animals - Abandoned Wallabies - Bristol Zoo

Hopelessly abandoned by their respective mothers, two baby Wallabies of Bristol Zoo are pictured here being cared for by Patricia Packham and her three year old son Stephen. Senior Zoo Keeper Donald Packham took pity on the Wallabies resulting in his wife Patricia carrying them under her jumper during the day and transferred to a box with a hot water bottle to ensure constant warmth at night time. Persevering with bottle-feeding Mr and Mrs Packham have been rewarded by rapid and steady progress by their two 'youngsters' who are now showing an interest in solid foods in the form of crisps and apple pieces. The larger Wallaby is named Lesley and is six months old. The smaller is Carol, who is only four months old.
