Blackpool football player Stanley Matthews taking a corner, during the First Division football match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, London. 23/02/2000 : Matthews dies, aged 85. * 17/10/00: Up to 500 items belonging to the estate of Sir Stanley including a gold replica of his 1953 FA Cup medal were being sold at auction at Stoke City's Britannia Stadium . * 31/08/2001: The FA Cup Winner's medal presented to him after the 1953 final is to be sold at auction and could fetch up to 30, 000, it was revealed. The nine-carat gold medal was presented to the former England winger after his side's 4-3 win over Bolton Wanderers. Sotheby's, which hosts the sale in London, have given it a 20, 000 to 30, 000 asking price. The proceeds will go to the Professional Footballers' Association benevolent fund. Sir Stanley, who died aged 85 following a short illness, is best remembered for his outstanding contribution to the match, in which his team-mate Stan Mortensen scored three times.

Theatre - Cochran Young Ladies - Adelphi Theatre, London
Actress Anna Neagle (in white fur hat), star of the successful musical comedy Charlie Girl, in which she plays the part of a Cochran Young Lady, pictured in a line-up of former Cochran Young Ladies on the stage of the Adelphi Theatre in London. Miss Neagle, who was herself a Cochran Young Lady, had invited some of her old friends and other musical comedy stars associated with Cochran to a special tea party at the theatre before this evening's performance.
