1908 London Olympic Games - Marathon - Dorando Pietri - The White City Stadium
Italian Dorando Pietri about to break the tape to win the 1908 London Olympic Marathon. Pietri was later disqualified for having been assisted by his manager whilst in a state of collapse. More recently the man on the right assisting Dorando Pietri is believed to be the British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this however is not a proven fact.

Politics - State Opening of Parliament - London
The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, opened Parliament for the first time in her reign. Riding with the Duke in the Irish State coach, the Queen drove in procession from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords, returning in procession after making the traditional speech from the Throne.
