Underground World Record - Cheddar Caves

David Lafferty, a 27-year-old ex-RAF officer, enjoys a tankard, sandwich, and his last sight of daylight for months, as he prepares to enter Cheddar Caves in a bid to break the world record of 126 days alone underground. His tent will be pitched on the sandy floor of the 40ft-high Boulder Cave, which is out of bounds to visitors. In addition to food and water, Mr Lafferty has 1, 438 candles and 200 books. If he stays down for 100 days, he will receive 500 from Lord Weymouth, owner of the caves, and 5 for every day after that.
