Landmarks - Clifton Suspension Bridge - Bristol

Perhaps the loftiest oiling job, and the coolest, in Britain is carried out by this workman, surefooted on the steep chains of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, 330 feet above the River Avon, Bristol. He inspects and oils the joints on the chains of the bridge. The bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom and was completed in 1864.

Cricket - Essex County Cricket Team - Essex

England and Essex cricketer Trevor Bailey wears a new 'sweatsuit' to help him reduce weight whilst training with weights. The sweatsuit is made from heavy duty plastic material which when worn causes the body-heat to be retained within the garment. No heat escapes and the temperature inside the garment, rising above blood heat, causes the wearer to perspire freely. The layers of fatty tissue which form just under the outer skin on various parts of the body melt away easily and without discomfort.

Customs and Traditions - The Coopers Apprentice - London

Certainly in need of a comb and brush, 21-year-old Robert Leece, of Isleworth, has just passed from being an apprentice to a fully-fledged Cooper at the Stag Brewery in Pimlico, London. In a ceremony dating back to the reign of the first Queen Elizabeth, Robert built a 54-gallon cask and was then put inside with a mixture of soot, ash, water and other ingredients to be rolled about the floor by other Coopers. Afterwards he was presented with his indentures as a qualified craftsman.
