Andrew Tuttner (8) meets two Daleks on Westminister Bridge, London. The robots were on location for the new BBC series of "Dr Who". 5/2/99: The Daleks will appear on Millennium stamps due to be issued Summer 1999 by the Royal Mail. * The other three stamps in the entertainers series are expected to feature Bobby Moore holding the World Cup aloft, Charlie Chaplin and former rock legend Freddie Mercury.

Glasgow Central Station safety
Signal lights are all turned to red and lines stand empty at Glasgow Central station following Railtrack's announcement that it has closed a section of the West Coast main line. The cause of the closure was blamed on track maintenance in the wake of the Hatfield crash. * 30/6/03: Network Rail has announced that it will cost 54 billion to run the railways over the next 10 years. The infrastructure company, which has replaced Railtrack, also confirmed that 'around 2, 000' of its staff would be losing their jobs over the next three years.

17th NOVEMBER : On this day in 1974 pop group ABBA begun their first tour of Europe. The four members of Swedish pop group "Abba" . From left to right: Benny Anderson, Anni-Fryd Lyngstad, Anna Falkstog and Bjorn Ulvaeus on their way to a press conference at Crockford's Club in London Carlton House Terrace. *The group were in Britain to attend the premiere of their first film, ABBA - The Movie, at the Warner West End 2 Cinema in Leicester Square. Much of the film is about their Australian tour.
