18/09/1970 - ON THIS DAY IN 1970: Jimi Hendrix dies on this day in 1970. Pictured at the recent Isle of Wight music festival is pop singer Jimi Hendrix who was taken dead to St. Mary Abbot's Hospital, Kensington, London. German-born artist Monika Danneman, a former girlfriend of Hendrix, has been found dead in a fume-filled car near her home, police said.

Women's Land Army trainees set out to give a hand at turning hay in preparation for stacking. Obviously happy in their work, Periods of rain in the West Country have delayed much of the work but these girls will soon make amends for that.
