Sellafield Grenn Party Protest
Sunrise over BNFL's nuclear reprocessing plant at Sellafield, Cumbria, where Green Party representatives for Dublin South East, joined protestors to campaign against the opening of the new mixed oxide (MOX) plant at the site. * The demonstration comes after the Irish government and environmental groups took legal action to try and stop the new venture from going ahead. 21/10/02: Ireland was taking the British government to a tribunal in The Hague in a bid to gain access to information on Sellafield's MOX plant. The controversial mixed oxide (MOX) plant, owned by British Nuclear Fuels Limited, will recycle used uranium and plutonium to produce MOX fuel for power stations. The project was given the go-ahead in October 2001 despite protests from the Irish government, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, and CORE - Cumbrians Opposed to a Radioactive Environment. Irish protesters fear emissions from the Cumbrian plant will have a dire effect on their country and believe the plant would increase the threat of terrorism. *100603*Sunrise over the MOX (Mixed Oxide) reprocessing plant at Sellafield, which the Irish Republic is launching a fesh bid to close down at The Hague latetr Tuesday June 10, 2003.
