Finishing touches to the whitening of the Westbury White Horse near Westbury in Wiltshire. A four-week conservation project to protect the white horse ended. *...English Heritage, which is in charge of preserving the monument, helped direct the operation to steam clean the horse, dating back to the 18th Century. The white horse, one of seven visible in Wiltshire, is believed to date in its present form back to 1778 and is a feature of the scheduled ancient monument of Bratton Camp - an iron age hill fort. The horse, which costs 16, 000 to clean, stands in a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
