Social - "Peace Convoy" - Savernake Forest - Marlborough

Hippies photographed at Savernake Forest on the day the Earl of Cardigan strongly denied inviting 'Peace Convoy' hippies to camp on his family land about 20 miles from clashes between hippies and the police near Stonehenge. What he did, so he said, was to refuse a police request for the area to be declared a no-go are for hippies, following the weekend's confrontations he had refused a police move to bring in riot squads to "finish unfinished business" but his actions had been misinterpreted as active encouragement for hippies to set up a camp at a Forestry Commission picnic site on his land.

Music - Benjamin Britten - Wandsworth School Boy's Choir - St. Paul's Cathedral

Benjamin Britten, seated in the front row with some of the Wandsworth School Boy's Choir in St. Paul's Cathedral, when they rehearsed his latest work 'Children's Crusade', Op.82, a ballad for children's voices and orchestra. The work was written to mark the occasion of the Jubilee of The Save the Children Fund. It will be sung by the Wandsworth School Boy's choir at the Fund's Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's Cathedral and at the Aldeburgh Festival in June by the same choir. The words were taken from the text of German poet and dramatist Bertold Brecht, and the ballad relates the harrowing experiences of a band of children lost int he wilderness of wartime Poland in 1939.
