Military - Queen Mother presents new Squadron Standard to Dambusters squadron - RAF Marham

The Queen Mother on May 14, 1959 presents No 617 Squadron with its original standard. Today, the Queen Mother visited RAF Marham in Norfolk to present a new standard to the squadron, famed for the Dambusters raid in May 1943. In receiving the new standard, No 617 Squadron became the first RAF squadron to be presented with both Standards by the same member of the Royal family.

Stars Accept Award For Screen Writers

The award for the Best British Dramatic Screenplay in 1961, given to Shelagh Delaney and Tony Richardson for the film 'A Taste of Honey', is accepted on their behalf by Rita Tushingham and Murray Melvin from Richard Attenborough (left) at the first annual awards dinner of the Television and Screen Writers' Guild at the Dorchester Hotel. London. Miss Tushingham and Mr. Melvin gave highly praised performances in the film. Mr. Attenborough was one of a number of stars who presented the Guild's awards to screen writers for films and television in 1961.
