Entertainment - Radio - The Archers - Bagnor - 1985

Members of the cast of Britain's longest running radio serial, "The Archers", which is to be brought to the stage for the first time, in the village of Bagnor near Newbury, Berkshire. The drama, "The Archers Live in Ambridge", will run from June 18th to July 13th. Among the cast are (left to right) regulars Charles Collingwood (who plays Brian Aldridge), Patricia Greene (Jill Archer), Norman Painting (Phil Archer), and Alison Dowling (Elizabeth Archer) as well as Norman Jones (Jack Woolley) and David Parfitt (Nigel Pargetter) who are not in the radio show but have been brought in to replace the actors who have other engagements. Norman Painting is celebrating his 35th anniversary as an "Archer".

Royalty - Princess Elizabeth Christening - London

The top tier of Princess Elizabeth wedding cake is being used for the official cake for the Royal Christening. McVitie & Price, who made the wedding cake with a silver cradle, which holds a miniature doll dressed in christening robes, pelisse and bonnet by the Royal School of Needlework. PICTURE SHOWS: The top-piece of the prince's christening cake receiving final touches by Irene Podd, of Harlesden, London, at McVitie & Price Works, Harlesden. She has assisted in the manufacture of all cakes which the firm has supplied to the Royal Family since the christening for H.R.H.Princess Elizabeth and including her wedding cake.

Theatre - Agatha Christie - 'The Mousetrap' - Savoy Hotel, London

Agatha Christie, author of the record breaking play 'The Mousetrap', uses a sword to cut a birthday cake weighing half a ton at a party a the Savoy Hotel to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the run of her play 'The Mousetrap' at the Ambassador's Theatre. Helping her is Peter Saunders, who presents the play. The cake had a giant marzipan mouse trap on it, and 10 candles. The party, given by Agatha Christie and Mr Saunders, was attended by 1, 000 guests, including most of the top stars in the entertainment world and many actors and actresses who have appeared in the play.
