Transport - Heritage Railway - Bluebell Lines First Run - Sheffield Park, Sussex
Preparing the old locomotive Bluebell at Sheffield Park, Sussex, for reopening of the Bluebell Line. Paul Willis, 18, is on the loco and hands part of the funnel to Harold May, general manager of the new Bluebell Line. Also pictured is Albert Mills, permanent way inspector. The Bluebell Line, so called because it runs through 4-and-half-miles of the prettiest Sussex countryside, was closed by British Railways as uneconomic, but has been put back into working order by a group of enthusiasts. It will operate at weekends and in the summer. The locomotive Bluebell was formerly with the South Coast and Chatham Railway.
