Leisure and Tourism - Caravan Holiday
Harry and Frances Gilbert with their nine year old son Kristy having a picnic on the side of the road. The Gilbert family, from West Twyford, have been compelled to spend the last five days of their holiday in their parked caravan. They were due to spend their break away in Bournemouth but the clutch on their car, right, burned out on the Kingston by-pass.
Weather - Gales - Margate, Kent
Margate's most famous landmark, the 150 year old pier, with a large section missing after being pounded by gale-lashed seas the previous night. In the foreground, the lifeboat station stands isolated. Parts of the pier were scattered along the beach. The structure was closed down two years previous because it was considered unsafe.

Buildings and Landmarks - Durham
The towers of Durham Cathedral, with the weir of the River Wear in the foreground. The Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Mary the Virgin was built between 1093 and 1133 and contains the tomb of one of England's earliest historians , the Venerable Bede.
