The DC8 airliner was needed to carry their equipment, which included musical instruments, lights and more than seven tons of amplification equipment. Also a crew of 16 people will accompany them on their 12 day tour of the major cities of Japan.

Pop idol Shakin Stevens. The 53-year-old Welsh singer-songwriter is facing a charge of drink driving (2002) after being arrested in his vehicle in the village of Clearwell, near Coleford, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, in the early hours of New Year's Day, it emerged. * 16/1/02: Pop idol Shakin' Stevens was appearing in court charged with drink driving - two weeks after his arrest in the early hours of New Year's Day. The 53-year-old singer-songwriter was stopped by police in his vehicle in the village of Clearwell, near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, just two hours into the New Year.

Roger Bannister, the first man to crack the four minute mile, easily retains his Mile title in the Amateur Athletic Association championships at the White City Stadium, London. In an otherwise slow race he finished in 4 minutes 7.6 seconds, Bannister clocked 53.8 seconds for the last lap. 06/05/2004 Sir Roger Bannister is reliving the moment he made sporting history today, Thursday 6th May 2004, with a day of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the first sub-four-minute mile. Sir Roger is returning to Oxford University's Iffley Road sports ground, the scene of his triumph, for a restaging of the original athletics meeting at which he broke the record.
