Social - Peace Convoy - Savernake Forest - Marlborough
Hippies photographed at Savernake Forest on the day the Earl of Cardigan strongly denied inviting 'Peace Convoy' hippies to camp on his family land about 20 miles from clashes between hippies and the police near Stonehenge. What he did, so he said, was to refuse a police request for the area to be declared a no-go are for hippies, following the weekend's confrontations he had refused a police move to bring in riot squads to "finish unfinished business" but his actions had been misinterpreted as active encouragement for hippies to set up a camp at a Forestry Commission picnic site on his land.
