A view of Fife and the Fourth Railway Bridge from the South Tower of the Forth Road Bridge. The Forth Road Bridge is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary later this year, although a 3.5 million resurfacing project on the bridge is proving to be a less than happy occasion for weekend commuters stuck in lengthy tailbacks. Work which began on the project on April 16 will see the south-bound carriageway closed every weekend until June with the Forth Estuary Transport Authority donating 10, 000 to local communities to come up with an idea to celebrate the anniversary to thank them for their patience.
Clifton Suspension Bridge - Chambers
Clifton Suspension bridge in Bristol designed by engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. A series of secret chambers have been found in the bridge more than 160 years after they were built, it has been disclosed. * The twelve chambers inside an abutment (right) of the Bridge are up to 11 metres high and have been described as cathedral-like. It is thought they were incorporated into the design to save on building materials but engineers have said the bridge's structure is perfectly safe.
