Perhaps the loftiest oiling job, and the coolest, in Britain is carried out by this workman, surefooted on the steep chains of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, 330 feet above the River Avon, Bristol. He inspects and oils the joints on the chains of the bridge. The bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom and was completed in 1864

Probably the oldest surviving windmill in England is this wooden postmill at Bourn, Cambridgeshire. It is known to have been in existence in 1636, and is scheduled by the Ministry of Works as an ancient monument for preservation. It is very small, like the mills depicted in mediaeval illuminated manuscripts, and has the traditional straight sided roof
