Rock star Pete Townshend, of The Who, halted by a commissionaire wanting to see his ticket as he arrived at the Plaza One Cinema in Lower Regent Street, London, to attend the world premiere of Quadrophenia, a film based on The Who's album of the same name. Townshend silently produced his ticket and went in to join the star-studded audience.

The Grant family from TV's latest soap opera, Brookside, which will be launched on Channel Four next month. The cast were meeting the Press today at the cul-de-sac in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, which has been taken over for the twice-weekly series. Playing the Grant family are (from l-r) Simon O'Brien (Damion), Paul Usher (Barry), Shelagh O'Hara (Karen), Sue Johnston (Sheila) and former building worker Eric Tomlinson as Robert Grant.
