Eager hands of London children stretch out for sweets which were not only off the ration but were being distributed for free. The hand-out was at the front gates of Batger's, the confectioner manufacturers, at Clapham Common, London, when the firm gave away sweets to celebrate derationing. Brighton will be the first resort in England to have Life Girls on the beach this summer. A team of six unpaid volunteers, all members of the Brighton Swimming Club and all holders of the Royal Life Saving Society's bronze medallion, will be on duty each weekend from Saturday, May 26 until the end of the August. They will help keep safe swimmers between the Palace and West piers, sharing duties with qualified life-saving male members of the Brighton Swimming Club. *Scan from print. Patrons will be able to watch the busy traffic on this section of the M6 (the Birmingham-Preston Motorway) from the unique bridge restaurant spanning the roadway at Keele, Staffordshire. The restaurant, with seating close to 300, is included in a 500, 000 service area to be operated by Forte's & Co, Ltd. There will be snack bars and transport cafes, serving each side of the road, parking facilities for 240 cars and 70 lorries and a mothers room staffed by trained stewardesses. The Keele section of the motorway is due to be opened in the autumn
