The British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal is escorted up Loch Long by a tugboat as it heads for the Glen Douglas facility in Scotland. The Ark Royal will take on stores there before heading off on a deployment which will take it to the Mediterranean and possibly onto the Gulf. * 16/1/03: Britains most powerful warship was due to set sail from Scotland, having completed its final domestic preparations for a potential war in the Gulf. HMS Ark Royal was expected to leave the Glen Douglas armaments base on the banks of Loch Long, Argyll, bound for the Mediterranean where it will take part in exercises. The aircraft carrier will then head for the Gulf region should the US and Britain launch military action against Iraq
